Soo Ching spent most of her career in Standard Chartered Bank in Consumer Banking and Technology. In her early career in Malaysia, she spent a significant period in both banking operations and technology. She was a pioneer of branch mechanization and established the first Malaysia-wide computer network to a centralized core banking service centre in Kuala Lumpur. During this time, she also gained her MBA.

In the late 1980s, Soo Ching moved to Singapore to establish the Bank's regional consumer banking systems development centre set up to implement the Bank's new regional consumer banking, card and installment loan core systems. In the mid 1990s, Soo Ching became the Group Head of Global Technology Services with responsibility for day-day technology service management in 53 countries with 800 staff.

She also managed the outsourcing of the Bank's major data centres in the Asia Pacific, UK and US to external technology service providers. She was involved in the contract negotiation, development of service contracts and managed the transition of technology services in-house to the third parties.

For the last 18 months of her career in Standard Chartered Bank, Soo Ching moved into the Consumer Banking business as the head of a major change programme to reengineer credit card operations to world-class standards.

Soo Ching then decided to set up her own company to work with a number of banking clients. As the head of professional services for a dot-com company and as an independent consultant, she has worked with banks in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. She has language skills in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Cantonese, Teochew, Hokkien and English.

Recently she has worked on the credit card reengineering of a large Malaysian Bank and setting up a loan factory for an Indonesian bank. She is currently engaged in setting up a new SME bank in Thailand with a particular focus on the selection and implementation of core banking systems and the use of an operational technology outsourcing partner.
