Chak Kong Soon, a Malaysian national, took a degree from the University of Iowa before joining Accenture where he became a Senior Manager in the Financial Services Group providing technology solutions to banks and other financial services businesses.
During this period, Chak designed and implemented systems primarily for the corporate banking sector. These included applications for credit administration, credit operations, corporate lending, front-end distribution, forex dealing, customer Information and business intelligence.
Chak also created strategic IT master plans for large financial institutions in the region. He also set up one of the earliest electronic banking systems for one of the largest banks in Mauritius and was the technology advisor to the largest State Bank in Mauritius.
In the late 1990s, Chak created his own software business in Singapore providing middleware software and front-end internet and mobile banking solutions for banks in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan. He was also an instigator of an early international electronic payments service using the new Internet technologies. For his achievements in the Information Technology arena, Chak was presented the "Young Professional of the Year" title at the IT Leader Awards in 1999. He was also a finalist in the Rotary-Association of Small and Medium Enterprise Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
In recent years, he has helped financial institutions design and build large complex enterprise application systems. As one of Singapore's foremost 'technopreneurs', Chak assists a number of technology businesses in developing their strategies and managing their growth and is a Board Member of a number of technology companies in Asia. Within the financial services sector, he has a particular interest in wealth management technologies; outside of the sector, his particular current focus is in media and associated convergence technologies.
Chak has been in the Executive Council of the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) for the last 13 years. He is currently a Board Member of the Institute of System Sciences of the National University of Singapore. He also participates as committee member in various committees chaired by organisations like Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and the Singapore Computer Society (SCS).
Chak is a Certified IT Project Manager (Senior) out of a total number of 150 senior certified project managers in Singapore. Additionally, he is an external examiner for Certified IT Project Management (CITPM) examination. |
